Salary Range: 77000 – 83000 per year

Key Responsibilities

  1. Prepare and level construction sites by carrying out site scraping, cut and filling activities, and ground preparation for civil works and residential construction projects.
  2. Assist in setting out work areas and preparing excavation zones to ensure safe and efficient construction operations.
  3. Operate excavators, Posi-track machines, and other earthmoving equipment to excavate, move, and grade soil, rock, gravel, and other materials as required for construction works.
  4. Perform excavation activities including digging trenches, footings, and foundations for residential and civil infrastructure projects.
  5. Load and transport excavated materials into trucks and support bulk earthworks and detailed excavation activities.
  6. Assist with backfilling excavations and compacting soil to meet project specifications and site requirements.
  7. Conduct daily inspection and maintenance of plant machinery, including pre-start checks of fuel levels, hydraulic systems, oil, and safety features to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently.
  8. Maintain plant and machinery in clean and serviceable condition and report mechanical faults or equipment damage to supervisors for repair or maintenance.
  9. Assist with installation and handling of underground services and drainage systems including supporting pipe-laying activities for stormwater, sewer, or water infrastructure where required.
  10. Support the implementation and management of temporary traffic control systems and site safety zones to ensure safe vehicle and pedestrian movement around construction areas.
  11. Coordinate with site supervisors, engineers, plant operators, and construction teams to ensure work activities are completed according to project schedules and specifications.
  12. Follow instructions provided by foremen or site managers and communicate effectively using hand signals or two-way radios when working with machinery operators.
  13. Maintain safe access and exit routes around excavation and work zones and ensure compliance with site traffic management procedures.
  14. Follow workplace health, safety, and environmental procedures and comply with company safety policies and site-specific safety management plans.
  15. Identify potential hazards on site and implement appropriate control measures to minimize risks to workers and equipment.
  16. Use and maintain personal protective equipment including helmets, high-visibility clothing, safety boots, gloves, and eye protection.
  17. Complete daily machinery logs, inspection checklists, and operational records including fuel usage and equipment operating hours.
  18. Report site incidents, hazards, near misses, and operational issues to supervisors in accordance with workplace procedures.
  19. Support environmental protection measures on site by preventing fuel or oil spills, controlling dust and runoff, and ensuring compliance with environmental management plans.
  20. Assist in protecting surrounding infrastructure, underground utilities, and vegetation while carrying out construction activities.

Skills and Experience

  1. At least 1 year of experience working on civil construction or earthworks projects.
  2. Ability to operate or assist in operating excavators, Posi-track machines, or similar earthmoving equipment.
  3. Knowledge of excavation techniques, ground preparation, and earthmoving processes used in civil construction.
  4. Understanding of construction site safety procedures and hazard management.
  5. Ability to follow site instructions and work effectively within construction teams.
  6. Good communication skills when coordinating with supervisors, operators, and other workers.
  7. Physical fitness and ability to perform manual tasks in outdoor construction environments.

Qualifications

Certificate III or Diploma in Civil Construction, Construction, or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
