Set within our beautifully preserved heritage building, our hotel offers a warm, inviting atmosphere where locals and travellers alike gather to enjoy classic pub dining, exceptional hospitality, and the finest regional flavours.
We are looking for a Commis Chef to join the team! In this role, you will support the kitchen under the leadership of our Head Chef. Your responsibilities will include preparing, cooking, and presenting dishes that celebrate our local produce, maintaining high standards of food hygiene, and ensuring the smooth operation of your section during busy services. This is a full-time ongoing position, working 38 hours per week based in Auburn, SA.
Main tasks:
-Prepare, cook, and present dishes to the highest standards, providing essential support to your designated section during service.
-Assist the senior kitchen team in the daily preparation of ingredients (mise en place), ensuring all components are ready for service.
-Learn and follow recipes accurately to ensure consistency in taste, portion control, and presentation across the menu.
-Maintain a clean and organised workstation, ensuring all kitchen equipment is handled correctly and sanitised according to protocol.
-Minimise food waste by following correct storage procedures and practising efficient prep techniques to protect profit margins.
-Monitor stock levels within your section and notify the Head Chef or Sous Chef when supplies are running low.
-Adhere strictly to health and safety regulations, including food safety standards, temperature recording, and allergen management.
-Collaborate effectively with the wider kitchen team, maintaining a "can-do" attitude to ensure smooth operations during peak periods.
-Develop your culinary skills by actively participating in training and taking direction from the Chef de Partie and Head Chef.
-Uphold the reputation of The Rising Sun Hotel by ensuring every plate meets our standards of classic country hospitality.
Required/Relevant Qualifications & Work Experience:
-Minimum of a relevant Certificate IV qualification and at least 1 year of relevant industry experience.
Required/Relevant Skills & Knowledge:
-Solid foundational cooking skills and a keen interest in developing a professional culinary repertoire.
-Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to take direction well and work harmoniously within a close-knit team.
-Good time management skills, ensuring prep tasks are completed punctually and the section is ready for service.
-The ability to multitask and stay calm under pressure while managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
Annual salary will be between $66,000.00 to $72,000.00 (plus superannuation) depending on level of experience.
