Position Overview
The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking food items in accordance with established recipes, portion standards, and service requirements. The role supports day-to-day kitchen operations by ensuring meals are prepared efficiently, safely, and consistently during breakfast and lunch service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook food items according to recipes, portion sizes, and daily service requirements.
- Undertake food preparation tasks such as washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and portioning ingredients.
- Prepare and cook café-style breakfast and lunch items using kitchen equipment and cooking methods appropriate to the menu.
- Check food during preparation and cooking to ensure quality, consistency, and proper doneness.
- Plate and present meals to the required standard before service.
- Store food safely and appropriately in accordance with food safety and hygiene requirements.
- Monitor stock on hand in kitchen work areas and advise when ingredients require replenishment.
- Receive, unpack, and store kitchen supplies and perishable stock in the correct storage areas.
- Maintain cleanliness of food preparation areas, cooking equipment, utensils, and kitchen surfaces.
- Follow workplace health, safety, sanitation, and food handling procedures at all times.
- Work cooperatively with other kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure meals are prepared and served on time during busy periods.
