Painter

This role is responsible for delivering premium painting and decorative finishes across residential and boutique commercial projects undertaken by Artnow International. The role involves the preparation, treatment and finishing of interior and exterior surfaces to a consistently high standard, including detailed trim work and specialised finishes such as gold applications.

Working as part of a professional site team, the position requires a high level of craftsmanship, attention to detail and the ability to produce precise, durable and visually refined finishes. The role contributes directly to the company’s reputation for quality by ensuring all painting work meets project specifications, client expectations and site safety requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Prepare interior and exterior surfaces for painting by cleaning, sanding, patching, sealing and priming to ensure optimal adhesion and finish quality.
2. Assess surface conditions and determine appropriate preparation techniques and materials for different substrates including timber, plaster, masonry and metal.
3. Apply paints, coatings, varnishes and decorative finishes using brushes, rollers and spray equipment in accordance with project specifications.
4. Undertake detailed finishing work including fine trims, edging, feature walls and high-end decorative elements such as gold detailing.
5. Select, mix and match colours and finishes to achieve precise tones and visual consistency across surfaces.
6. Carry out exterior painting works designed to withstand coastal and environmental conditions relevant to the Gold Coast region.
7. Protect surrounding areas through appropriate masking, covering and containment methods to maintain clean and damage-free worksites.
8. Erect and safely use ladders, scaffolding and access equipment as required to complete works at height.
9. Inspect completed work to ensure it meets required quality standards, rectifying any defects or inconsistencies prior to project handover.
10. Maintain tools, equipment and materials in a clean and serviceable condition.
11. Adhere to workplace health and safety requirements, including safe handling of paints, solvents and equipment.
12. Collaborate with supervisors, trades and team members to ensure works are completed efficiently and in line with project timelines.
13. Maintain a high standard of workmanship and presentation consistent with the company’s premium service offering.
14. Clean and prepare work areas at the completion of tasks, ensuring sites are left in a professional condition.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

1. AQF Certificate IV in Painting and Decorating or higher qualification, or at least three years of relevant industry experience.
2. Demonstrated experience in residential or commercial painting, with exposure to high-end or detailed finishing work preferred.
3. Strong technical skills in surface preparation, coating application and finishing techniques.
4. Experience with decorative finishes, fine trims and detailed work requiring precision and consistency.
5. Ability to interpret job specifications, colour schedules and project requirements.
6. High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
7. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced project environment.
8. Good time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and maintain productivity.
9. Understanding of workplace health and safety practices relevant to painting and construction environments.
10. Physically capable of performing manual work, including lifting, climbing and working at heights.
11. Reliable, punctual and professional approach to work.
