Position Summary

Delta Corporation Limited are a precast concrete business and are looking for aProduct Research and Development Engineer to join our team. The role supports the development, testing, optimisation and commercialisation of precast concrete products, material technologies and manufacturing processes within the business.

The role focuses on applied engineering activities related to concrete materials, product performance, durability, manufacturing efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives. The position works closely with production, quality, marketing and management teams to support innovation, technical problem-solving and product development across the company’s precast operations.

The role is full-time and would suit a qualified Materials Engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct research, testing and evaluation of concrete materials, mix designs and raw material performance for precast concrete applications.
  2. Assist in the development and optimisation of new and existing precast concrete products.
  3. Analyse material behaviour, durability and performance characteristics to support product reliability and compliance requirements.
  4. Investigate product defects, cracking, material failures and manufacturing-related quality issues, providing technical recommendations and corrective actions.
  5. Support laboratory and field testing activities, including data collection, analysis and technical reporting.
  6. Evaluate alternative materials, admixtures and sustainable concrete technologies to improve product performance, manufacturing efficiency and sustainability performance.
  7. Collaborate with production teams to optimise curing methods, material utilisation and manufacturing processes.
  8. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, improving consistency and increasing operational efficiency.
  9. Prepare technical documentation, specifications, reports and engineering records related to material testing and product development activities.
  10. Monitor compliance with relevant Australian Standards, technical specifications and quality requirements applicable to precast concrete products.
  11. Provide technical support to manufacturing and quality teams regarding material-related issues and engineering solutions.
  12. Assist with prototype development, product trials and validation of new precast systems and manufacturing techniques.

Skills & Experience

  1. Bachelor degree in Materials Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  2. Experience in concrete technology, construction materials, manufacturing or industrial environments is desirable.
  3. At least 3 years experience in a similar position.
  4. Understanding of concrete mix design, material properties and durability principles.
  5. Knowledge of laboratory testing procedures and technical analysis methods.
  6. Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical reporting skills.
  7. Ability to work collaboratively within manufacturing and production environments.
  8. Understanding of quality control and continuous improvement principles.
  9. Familiarity with Australian Standards related to concrete and construction materials would be advantageous.
