POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Retail Manager is responsible for the complete operational, financial, and staffing management of the Ampol Fuel & Gas Station and the attached Takeaway Shop. The role ensures smooth daily operations, regulatory compliance, high customer service standards, and efficient staff supervision. This position requires strong leadership, multitasking capability, and knowledge of fuel, retail, and food service environments.
Main Tasks
• Oversee daily operations of the fuel station, convenience store, and Fish and Chips Shop. • Supervise and support employees across all operational areas.
• Monitor fuel levels, organise deliveries, and manage hazardous materials procedures. • Handle all cash management, EFTPOS reconciliation, and daily financial reporting. • Implement sales strategies and meet weekly and monthly revenue targets. • Train new employees on customer service, POS systems, food safety, and workplace safety. • Ensure full compliance with food handling, hygiene, and temperature control requirements. • Manage staff rosters, approve timesheets, and conduct performance reviews. • Resolve customer issues, manage complaints, and maintain service standards. • Order stock, perform stock rotation, minimise wastage, and coordinate with suppliers. • Maintain cleanliness, safety, and visual standards for both business areas. • Conduct regular audits on food safety, fuel equipment, store presentation, and emergency systems.
• Prepare operational reports and communicate business updates to management. • Coordinate service technicians, inspectors, and external vendors as needed.
Other Duties
• Assist with promotional activities and community engagement initiatives. • Ensure maintenance and safe operation of fryers, refrigeration units, and fuel pumps.
• Participate in recruitment and onboarding of new team members.
• Respond to unexpected operational issues including equipment breakdowns or supply shortages.
• Ensure compliance with WorkSafe, food safety audits, and Ampol operational standards.
