As a Speech Pathologist, you will work closely with clients across various age groups, including children and adults, to assess, diagnose, and treat communication and swallowing disorders. You will collaborate with families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure the best possible outcomes for each client.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify speech, language, communication, and swallowing difficulties using both standardised and informal tools
- Develop and implement personalised, evidence-based therapy plans tailored to individual client needs
- Provide therapy for a range of conditions, including speech delays, language disorders, social communication difficulties, and swallowing impairments
- Deliver aural rehabilitation and communication strategies where required
- Prepare detailed reports, progress notes, and documentation in line with clinical and compliance standards
- Provide education, support, and counselling to clients, families, carers, and support networks
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, educators, and support workers to ensure holistic care
- Monitor client progress and adjust therapy plans accordingly
- Support clients with safe swallowing practices, including advice on food textures and positioning
- Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing professional development
Qualifications and Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Speech Pathology or Speech-Language Therapy
- Registration or eligibility for membership with Speech Pathology Australia
- Strong understanding of evidence-based therapy practices
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Strong organisational and documentation skills
- Current Working with Children Check and National Police Check (or willingness to obtain)
