Salary Range: 77000 - 83000 per year

Key Responsibilities

  1. Interpret engineering drawings and reinforce schedules to determine placement, spacing, and configuration of reinforcing steel and welded wire mesh.
  2. Measure, cut, and bend reinforcing steel bars, rods, and welded mesh to required specifications using appropriate hand tools, power tools, and bending equipment.
  3. Assemble reinforcement cages and frameworks for structural elements such as beams, columns, slabs, and footings.
  4. Install reinforcing steel and mesh within formwork prior to concrete placement, ensuring correct alignment, spacing, and structural support.
  5. Secure reinforcement using binding wire, clips, and specialized tying tools to maintain stability during concrete pouring.
  6. Installs spacers, chairs, and supports to maintain required concrete cover and reinforcement positioning.
  7. Attach slinging equipment such as clamps, hooks, bolts, or knots to hoisting devices to assist with lifting and moving steel components on site.
  8. Assist with positioning reinforcement assemblies and steel components using lifting or rigging equipment when required.
  9. Support the setup of rigging equipment, winches, and lifting gear used to move structural steel elements.
  10. Assist with erection of temporary site structures including guard rails, safety barriers, safety nets, and other protective systems.
  11. Work with site teams including concrete workers, farm workers, riggers, and supervisors to ensure reinforcement installation aligns with construction schedules and project specifications.
  12. Assist with unloading, handling, and safe storage of reinforcing materials delivered to the construction site.
  13. Inspect installed reinforcement to confirm it meets engineering drawings, project specifications, and structural requirements before concrete placement.
  14. Report any inconsistencies, defects, or design issues to supervisors or engineers for corrective action.
  15. Follow workplace health and safety procedures and maintain safe working practices when handling steel materials and operating tools or equipment.
  16. Participate in site inductions, safety meetings, and toolbox talks to ensure compliance with workplace safety standards.

Skills and Experience

  1. At least 1 year of relevant work experience as a Steel Fixer or in reinforced concrete construction.
  2. Ability to interpret construction drawings and reinforcement schedules.
  3. Experience handling reinforcing steel, welded mesh, and structural reinforcement materials.
  4. Knowledge of reinforcement installation processes used in concrete construction.
  5. Ability to work with steel cutting, bending, and tying tools safely and efficiently.
  6. Good coordination and teamwork skills when working with construction crews.
  7. Understanding of construction site safety procedures and hazard awareness.
  8. Physical capability to perform manual tasks and handle heavy construction materials.

Qualifications

  1. Certificate or Diploma in Construction, Building and Construction, Steel Fixing, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience and on-the-job training in steel fixing and reinforcement work.
