Position Overview:

The Welder is responsible for assembling metal structures and components by interpreting technical drawings and applying appropriate welding techniques. This role requires attention to detail, strong technical skills, and a commitment to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Interpret and study blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine job requirements
  2. Select, clean, and prepare metal stock for fabrication
  3. Cut marked-out metal sections and shapes using hand tools, flame cutting torches, and metal cutting machines
  4. Shape and bend metal sections and pipes using hand tools, machinery, and heat-based techniques
  5. Align components to be joined using hand tools and precision measuring instruments
  6. Join metal sections using various welding techniques, as well as bolting and riveting where required
  7. Inspect and examine welds to ensure quality, including bead width, penetration, and accuracy
  8. Finish fabricated products by cleaning, polishing, filing, and applying chemical treatments where necessary
  9. Clean and smooth welds using filing, chiseling, and grinding tools
  10. Ensure all work complies with safety standards and company procedures

Skills & Experience

Qualifications:

  1. Relevant trade qualification in Welding, Fabrication, or similar (preferred)

Experience:

  1. Previous experience in welding or metal fabrication (essential)
  2. Experience working with various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, Stick)
  3. Experience in manufacturing or heavy industry (advantageous)

Skills:

  1. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
  2. Strong attention to detail and quality workmanship
  3. Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  5. Strong understanding of workplace health and safety practices
